17-year-old arrested in fatal shooting at North Lincoln house party, police say

LINCOLN, Nebraska – A 17-year-old was arrested on Friday in a fatal shooting at a house party in North Lincoln, police say.

Kashaun McCree, 17, was accused of shooting Damien Brave, 18, in a house near 27th and Fair Streets at around 11:30 p.m.

Upon investigation, police discovered McCree had shot Brave “over a bag” he was carrying, said Police Chief Teresa Ewins.

Brave, who was a high school student in Lincoln, was then taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Ewins said McCree was taken into custody Thursday by members of the LPD and the US Marshals Service in Detroit. He will be charged as an adult.

McCree was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and the use of a firearm to commit a felony.

“Our community knows that our department will track down suspects wherever an investigation leads,” Ewins said.

An investigation is underway and anyone with information should call the Crime Stoppers line at 402-441-7773 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
